Feeling Good About Money

Most people have hang-ups when it comes to money. The mere thought of a bill creates a sense of dread in them. They spend too much; credit cards are their crack. Trying to control their finances seems like a futile, lost battle. When the money runs out before the bills do, other addictions take over.

There is a better way. Feel good about money. Focus on the good things money can do. See yourself as having plenty of whatever you need, whenever you need it. This may sound like stupid, Pollyanna, magical thinking, but it works. We create our own reality with our thoughts and feelings. The more we focus on how many bills we have, the more bills we will create. The more we focus on how much in debt we are, the longer and deeper in debt we become.

A big part of building a firm foundation of feeling good about money is to have a plan for how to spend, how to get out of debt and how to save. And like a pro golfer, you’ve got to see yourself controlling your actions the way you want if you want to hit the ball straight and far – you’ve got to see and feel yourself controlling your spending and saving a large, comfortable amount of money. Put your debt repayment program on autopilot and forget about it. You’ve got to do this before you make your swing – feeling and thinking positively about money needs to be done in blind faith before you start making progress in your financial goals. As Dale Carnegie once said, “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”
