There is no quick-fix solution to acne. Getting rid of acne involves a lifestyle change – which means that treating acne is a long-term commitment. While there are medications to battle acne, if you do not abet it with the proper facial care regimen, then your acne will either have free reign over your face, or it will take longer to clear up.

How it Works
Acne is caused by bacteria that get stuck in your skin. Your sebaceous glands – the oil secreting parts of your skin – sometimes become over productive, especially during puberty when there is a lot of hormone production going on. This could cause the oil glands to plug up and turn into mini cesspools for bacteria to grow.

When the bacteria in these plugs cause inflammation, it causes pimples and facial cysts. If they don’t get infected, they still form blackheads and whiteheads. Thankfully, you can help your skin battle pimples by following a simple facial care regimen.

1. Wash Up. Cleaning your face regularly is an essential part of treating your acne. Washing gets rid of the excess oil, and reduces the bacterial growth on your skin. Most acne facial cleansers are medicated to help kill bacteria, and reduce the oil production of your skin.

Some other essential elements facial cleansers and toners contain are Salicylic acid, astringents, and antibacterial ingredients such as Triclosan. Salicylic acid dries pimples so that they heal faster. They also help slough off dead skin cells so that fresher, healthier skin is revealed from beneath.

Astringents help tone skin and close pores so that they are not as prone to bacterial growth. It also helps reduce oil production. Triclosan can kill bacteria, but in dosages found in cleansers, they could even promote the increase of resistant bacteria. You have to be wary of this.

2. Diet. A diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help reduce acne. Fruits are a great source of anti-oxidants that can help reveal a fresh, cleaner face. Vitamin C is essential to fighting off infections and inflammation. It also helps acne heal faster.

Vitamin B5 has been proven to help acne heal faster. However, it has to be taken in large doses and monitored by a dermatologist. Try avoiding too much sweets and oily foods as they could promote the production of oil and could keep pimples from healing quickly.

3. Hygiene. Make sure that everything that comes in contact with your face is clean. Have your pillow cases and bed sheets replaced every so often so that they do not carry bacterial that could cause acne. Refrain from touching your face too.

Wash your hands often. This is a great way to prevent both acne break outs and a host of other bacteria-caused illnesses.

4. Sleep. You should get your required 8 hours of sleep per day. This helps your body recuperate from the stresses of the day. Stress can cause pimples (via the oil production glands). Also, pulling all-nighters can also cause your oil glands to go into overdrive.

5. Water. Drink a lot of water. Water helps flush toxins from the body. It will also visibly reduce the oiliness in one’s skin. This will result in healthier, clearer skin. Couple this with exercise and you will have a body with a lesser chances for acne.

Conclusion
It really doesn’t seem too much doesn’t it? Actually, an anti-acne lifestyle is pretty simple to commit too. But its effect on your facial health – and even your overall health – is startling!
