Private tutoring can be a very effective aid for students in learning, no matter what what the student's aptitude for learning is. Students who are struggling in their studies will find that a tutor can help them learn their material more thoroughly and easily, while the academically adept student will find that a tutor can help them achieve a level of excellence and learning well beyond what they could achieve without a tutor.

Any student, no matter where in the percentiles they find themselves, may benefit from a tutor. If you decide to get a tutor, there are several options.

After school tutoring might be considered an entry level tutoring option. It is generally free or very economically priced, but often times the student will not get anywhere near the personal attention they would with another option.

Another option is tutoring centers. These are often highly effective, while still being economical. A tutoring center is normally not just tutoring, either – they will often combine tests, assessments, etc, into the package.

If you want a personal, one on one tutor, you have three basic options. You can hire a local student with expertise or experience in the area. This option will generally be economical, but may or may not be very effective, depending on the methods and expertise of the tutor.

You can also use online tutoring, but this has several disadvantages, such as the fact that email and IM are not highly effective channels for teaching and communication.

If you want the best in tutoring for your student, then you'll want to hire a personal, professional tutor. This will likely be the most expensive option, but if you get a good tutor, they will be worth what they charge. In addition to knowing the subject they are tutoring in, they will have expertise in good teaching skills and methods, meaning that your student can learn more in less time.
